What should I wear and bring?
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing. Yoga mats are available at the shala, but for hygiene reasons, we highly recommend bringing your own. Please also bring a sweat towel and drinking water to stay hydrated after practice. There are shower rooms at the shala, bring your own toiletries.
Which classes are suitable for beginners?
Mysore classes are ideal for first timers and beginners as they offer personalized instruction and a supportive learning environment.
What happens in a Mysore Class?
In a Mysore class, students practice at their own pace while the teacher provides individual guidance, support, and hands-on adjustments. Beginners start with a short, customized sequence focusing on breath, movement, and alignment, gradually progressing as they build confidence. Unlike a Led Class, Mysore allows for a one-on-one learning experience within a group setting, ensuring personalized instruction and steady progress.
What is a Led Class?
A Led Class is a guided session where the teacher counts in Sanskrit, and students move together in sync with the vinyasa count. It reinforces breath-to-movement coordination, refines transitions, and builds focus, strength, and stamina. Led classes complement Mysore practice by helping students internalize the rhythm of the Ashtanga sequence.
Can beginners join the Led Classes?
Yes, but beginners should be familiar with at least the full standing sequence from their Mysore practice. If you’re unsure, we recommend starting with Mysore classes first to build confidence before joining a Led Class.
How often should I practice?
Ashtanga Yoga is ideally practiced six days a week, with rest days on full and new moon days. Most weeks include five or six days of practice, along with one dedicated rest day.
Consistency is key. Even if practicing six days a week isn’t possible, maintaining a steady and regular routine—whether a few days or daily—helps build discipline and progress over time. What matters most is showing up consistently. We welcome and support you at any frequency that works for you.
